What is the Tickborne 2.0 Panel Test?
The Tickborne Diseases or Tickborne 2.0 panel from Vibrant Wellness is the first to be run on a silicon micro-array platform, providing the highest specificity and sensitivity in the industry for detecting tickborne diseases. The most common tickborne diseases in the US are Anaplasmosis, Babesiosis, Bartonella infections, Ehrlichiosis, Rickettsiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and Lyme disease.
Worryingly, tickborne diseases have more than doubled in 13 years and are 77% of all vector-borne disease reports.
Lyme Disease accounts for the majority (82%) of all tickborne disease cases. Ticks usually need 24-72 hours to transmit any diseases they are carrying and, if found in time on the host, can be removed before they transmit infectious microorganisms to the host.
Which Patients is the Tickborne 2.0 Test Best Used For?
Tickborne diseases can be acquired from various ticks, which carry and pass on different microorganisms to the host. Many symptoms of tickborne diseases are generic or mimic other conditions. Thus, these diseases often go undiagnosed for months, increasing the progression of the disease in the patient.
Most common symptoms include:
- Fever and chills
- Headaches
- Neck stiffness
- Fatigue
- Muscle or joint aches/pains
- Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
- Skin rashes
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
- Change in cognitive or psychological status
- Anemia
- Enlarged tender lymph nodes
- Painful abdomen
- Dizziness or shortness of breath
- Numbness or weakness in limbs
Patients with Lyme disease may also experience a resurgence of symptoms, suggesting co-infections. Co-infections are complex and should be included in an initial screen of Lyme and related illnesses.
The physician should consider that tickborne disease symptoms and progression can be more severe in the elderly and immunocompromised patients.
What Does Tickborne 2.0 Test Measure?
The Tickborne 2.0 detects Lyme and other tickborne diseases through both antigen and PCR detection of microorganisms. This is the whole blood version of the test. It is also available as a blood spot test. Specifically, the Tickborne Diseases panel tests for IgG and IgM antibodies for Borreliosis/Lyme disease, co-infection (s) and opportunistic infections with other tickborne illnesses, and detection of DNA of the species causing these infections. The test involves an immunochip which is a semiquantitative assay that detects IgG and IgM antibodies in human serum.
The PCR Test is a real-time PCR Assay designed for the qualitative detection of infectious group-specific DNA in clinical samples. This chemiluminescence- based assay enables the detection of a lower level of antibodies compared to ELISA-Enhanced IgM for early detection. Moreover, nested amplifications enable up to 16000-fold amplification compared to traditional methods.
What Type of Sample is Needed to Complete the Tickborne 2.0 Test?
A blood sample is required for the test. Fasting is not required.
You will have to coordinate a Vibrant contracted phlebotomist and will be responsible for paying them directly for their draw fee to get this test done.
*This test cannot be ordered for patients under 2 years of age.
